The turn

Writer's picture: Juha TuukkanenJuha Tuukkanen

Last week I turned 40. Four years ago I decided that I want to spend my birthday in Northern Ireland, playing Portstewart Strand Course on my birthday. Like all plans of mice and men, my plans changed over the four years, but the trip and my birthday was even better than I could've hoped for.

Taking pictures in Royal County Down

Playing golf on my trip was out of the question due to a knee injury a week before the trip. This allowed me to chase the perfect light on the courses, try to take as many pictures as possible. The weather was always changing, but I managed to get good pictures from Portstewart, Royal Portrush and Royal County Down. I have to that Nessa and Sonja from Activities Ireland for arranging meetings with all the clubs so I could just go and roam around the courses taking pictures. Some of the pictures taken on my trip are now uploaded to the Golf Courses page, go check them out!

First pints of Guinness at The Harvest in Balbriggan

Not playing golf also gave me much more free time than what I'm used to when travelling in links land. I got to really experience lovely towns like Balbriggan, Portrush and Newcastle County Down. And to top it all, watching Ryder Cup Sunday in a pub in Portrush with a few lovely pints of Guinness was something I will never forget.

Now that winter is coming and golf courses in Finland are starting to close their doors for the 2018 season it is great that I have a few trips to look forward to. Next I am heading to Barcelona, shooting two lovely courses, Vallromanes and Llavaneras.
